Strategy: Increase access to and utilization of appropriate treatment and recovery/rehabilitation services for substance use and mental health disorders as well as pain management.
Code death records for specific substances involved in overdose deaths and risk factors in collaboration with the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner and the Vital Statistics Administration
Analyze and report on statewide overdose trends and provide actionable information to local partners to support prevention/intervention activities
Establish an overdose fatality review process that will allow local jurisdictions to quickly pool and analyze information on residents that die from overdose
Through the fatality review process, identify gaps in the system that if strengthened, could prevent future similar deaths, as well as improve coordination and communication among local partners participating on the teams
Provide clinical education for local controlled dangerous substance prescribers on local overdose prevention plans
Coordinate regulatory and enforcement activities between public health and safety authorities
Develop criteria for identification of practitioners that are high priorities for expanded, multi-agency investigations, to include patient outcomes, and compliance with clinical practice standards
