Data from a review of U.S.-based clinical trials published in Mayo Clinic Proceedings suggest that some of the most popular complementary health approaches — such as yoga, tai chi, and acupuncture — appear to be effective tools for helping to manage common pain conditions. The program in Scarborough, Maine is being implemented with the collaboration of the Scarborough Police Department. When an officer has encountered an incident where substance abuse is suspected or revealed, the officer provides the individual or family with information on how to obtain help. Participants in a treatment court in Reeds Spring, Missouri are receiving additional assistance and motivation by the Peers Encouraging and Empowering Peers (PEEPs) in Recovery program. The program provides a participant needed support by assigning a certified peer support specialist to assist the participant in living their lives and prevent relapse. The FDA hosted the first 2016 FDA Naloxone App Competition to encourage people from across different disciplines, including computer programmers, to fight the drug abuse epidemic. The winner was a PwrdBy for developing an app called ‘OD Help’. The app is intended to alert Naloxone carriers when a person overdoses. It can also interface with a breathing monitor to detect when someone is overdosing. It provides instructions on diagnosing an overdose and administering naloxone, and it can notify emergency services that additional help is needed. Read the ARTICLE.
